Federal Palace Hotel

Balmoral Convention Centre is on-site and hosts some of the largest December parties. Rates ₦80k–₦180k per night during peak. Staying here eliminates the 2am Uber crisis entirely.
Oniru Beach Estate Short-Lets

Direct beach access and walking distance to Balmoral events. Rates ₦70k–₦200k per night depending on apartment size. Managed buildings, most with pool access.
Lekki Phase 1 Short-Lets

Best value December base without VI hotel rates. Rates ₦50k–₦150k per night. 15-20 minutes to Landmark Beach, 25 to VI venues. Many buildings have rooftop pools.
Book by September. Three zones matter: Victoria Island for Ocean View and Hard Rock access, Lekki Phase 1 for Landmark Beach and Balmoral, and Oniru Beach Estate for direct beach access.
Airbnb and shortlet prices spike 25 to 30% in December. Book by September.

Boutique hotels in Nigeria means Ikoyi, Lagos. The neighbourhood offers a quieter residential feel compared to Victoria Island's commercial noise, with both main properties close enough for a Bolt to any VI meeting.

The George

Larger rooms than The Wheatbaker, strong pool, walking distance to Ikoyi Park and Jazz Hole. Rates from $100 per night. The more relaxed of the two Ikoyi properties. Works well for stays of three or more nights.
11 Howard Hotel

Under 20 rooms. Newer build, consistent power and water. Rates from $85 per night. Quiet and away from the main hotel strip.
Casa Lydia Boutique Hotel
From ~$70/nightCalabar, Cross River State
The standout boutique option outside Lagos. Well-maintained, good estate security, rates from $70 per night. One of the few properties in the south-south with genuine character.
The Wheatbaker books out 4–6 weeks ahead, particularly on weekends. The George has more availability.
Nigeria's eco-lodge options are few but exceptional. Obudu Mountain Resort sits at 1,576m with a cable car as the only access route, cool temperatures year-round, and direct views into Cameroon, from $80 per night.

Small research lodge beside one of West Africa's last Afromontane forests. Basic but clean, from $40 per night. Built for birders and montane forest researchers, not general tourism.
Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary Camp

Camp accommodation included in gorilla tracking permit packages. You cannot book a stay without a tracking reservation through the Cross River National Park authority.
Obudu cable car closes in heavy rain with no notice. Build a buffer day into any itinerary. Yankari books out 6–8 weeks ahead between November and February; contact the park directly or via Bauchi State Tourism Board.

Lagos Marriott Hotel Ikeja

Opened 2020. 13 minutes from the domestic terminal, 18 from international. Executive Lounge on floor 13, pool, business centre. Rates from $160 per night.
Radisson Blu Lagos Ikeja

Newer product than the Marriott. Tighter rooms, strong food and beverage, rooftop pool. Rates from $140 per night. GRA Ikeja location keeps you out of VI traffic while staying close to the mainland business district.
Always book direct. Nigerian OTA prices regularly exceed the hotel's own website rate. Confirm at booking whether your bill will be charged in USD or NGN – the difference matters at the current exchange rate.
Abuja's hotel market runs on government, diplomatic, and business demand. Occupancy tracks the National Assembly calendar.

The Place Hotel Abuja

Wuse II's best mid-tier option. Rates from $90 per night. Clean, consistent power and water, easy access to the Wuse 2 restaurant strip. Significantly cheaper than the Maitama flag carriers.
Availability collapses during National Assembly sessions (roughly Feb–June and Sep–Dec), ECOWAS summits, and the Christmas period. Book 6 or more weeks ahead if your visit touches any of these windows – or accept paying 40–60% above rack rate on arrival.
